CDS Signature Resizer Online
Prepare your signature for the UPSC CDS application by cropping, resizing, and compressing the image to the required upload format.
UPSC CDS Signature Upload Requirements
UPSC's application instructions call for a triple-signature image — not the single signature most other exam forms ask for.
| Requirement | UPSC Guidance |
|---|---|
| Signatures | 3 signatures in a single image |
| Arrangement | Vertically, one below another |
| Ink | Black ink |
| Paper | Plain white paper |
| Format | JPG |
| File name | signature |
| File size | 20 KB – 100 KB |
| Image dimensions | 350 – 500 pixels |
| Image quality | Clear, sharp and properly oriented |
All three signatures need to be clearly visible, correctly oriented, and inside the same image — UPSC's upload guide is specific about this part.
Important
Image-upload instructions can change between examination cycles. Treat your CDS notification and application portal as the final word before submitting. Official source: UPSC Active Examinations.
Before Preparing Your CDS Signature
- Sign on plain white paper using black ink.
- Write your signature three times vertically, with enough space between each one.
- Make sure all three are completely visible before you scan or photograph.
- Avoid shadows, ruled paper, folds, and dark backgrounds — any of these can make the crop harder later.
- Keep the paper flat when scanning or photographing.
This matters more for CDS than most other forms, since all three signatures have to stay legible together in one file, not just one clean signature. If your scan ends up with wide margins, our signature cropper trims them before you resize.
How to Prepare Your CDS Signature
Create the final upload file in a few steps:
- 1
Upload the signature image
The scanned image or a clear mobile photo containing all three signatures.
- 2
Crop the paper area
Remove unnecessary margins while keeping all three signatures inside the frame.
- 3
Resize and compress
Bring the file into the 20 KB–100 KB range.
- 4
Download the final JPG
Confirm all three signatures are visible, then save as signature.jpg.
Mobile Tip
If you're photographing the signatures with your phone, crop out the surrounding paper before compressing — it saves you from squeezing usable detail out of the signatures to hit the KB target.
Common CDS Signature Upload Problems
If your upload is rejected, the cause is almost always one of these:
| Problem | What to Check |
|---|---|
| Signature file is too large | Compress within the file-size range without losing legibility. |
| Only one signature is visible | All three need to be in the same image. |
| Signatures are arranged incorrectly | Vertical, one below another — not side by side. |
| Image looks blurry | Start from a clearer scan or photo; avoid over-compressing. |
| Too much white space | Crop paper margins while keeping every signature intact. |
| Wrong file format | Export as JPG. |
| File name is incorrect | Use "signature" as the filename if the portal specifies it. |
| Upload is rejected | Recheck size, dimensions, format, orientation, and signature count — in that order, since it's usually one of these five. |
Frequently Asked Questions
What signature size is required for CDS?
20 KB–100 KB, with dimensions of 350–500 pixels — and all three signatures need to fit inside that one file.
How many signatures are required for the CDS application?
Three, arranged vertically one below another in a single image.
Can I use a mobile photo of my CDS signature?
Yes — photograph clearly, then crop, resize and compress before uploading. Just make sure the final image stays sharp enough that all three signatures are legible.
Why is my CDS signature not uploading?
Usually file size, dimensions, format, orientation, or a missing signature. Check those five first before anything else.
Can I use the same signature file for CDS and NDA?
Not automatically — CDS needs three signatures in one image while NDA needs just one, so a file prepared for one won't fit the other's spec. Prepare each separately with our NDA signature resizer, and treat other defence routes like the Territorial Army photo & signature resizer the same way.
What format should my CDS signature be?
JPG, saved with the filename "signature" if your portal specifies it.
How do I reduce my CDS signature below 100 KB?
Crop the paper margins first, then adjust dimensions if the range allows, and compress gradually rather than all at once — our image compressor does this in steps. Check the preview and the signature size checker after each step so you don't lose legibility on any of the three signatures.
Is this CDS Signature Resizer free?
Yes — crop, resize and compress without installing anything.
