How to Resize Your UP Police Photo & Signature

Preparing the final image is easier when you work from a clean original.

   Remove unnecessary blank space while keeping the complete face or signature visible.

   Set the dimensions

   Enter the dimensions required by your application — 3.5 × 4.5 cm for the photo and 3.5 × 1.5 cm for the signature.

   Bring the image into the required KB range without reducing the quality unnecessarily.

   Check that the face is properly positioned or that the entire signature is visible.

   Save the prepared JPG/JPEG file separately from your original image.

Photo Size and File Size Are Different

One common mistake when preparing recruitment images is checking only the KB value.

Image dimensions determine how large the image is in pixels or centimetres. File size determines how much storage the image uses, such as 20 KB or 50 KB. Changing one does not automatically fix the other.

For example, a photograph can have the correct dimensions but still be above the allowed file size. Similarly, a file can be within the correct KB range while having incorrect dimensions.

Get Better Results From Your Original Image

Resizing cannot restore details that are missing from a poor-quality source. For a better final result:

• Take the photograph in good lighting.
• Use a plain background.
• Scan the signature clearly.
• Avoid shadows.
• Keep the handwriting sharp.
• Crop unnecessary margins.
• Avoid repeatedly compressing the same image.

If the final signature becomes blurry or too thin, start again from the original scan rather than continuing to compress it.

UP Police OTR: Prepare Your Images in Advance

UPPRPB has introduced One Time Registration (OTR) for online recruitment applications. OTR helps candidates avoid repeatedly entering basic information when applying for eligible future recruitments.

This makes it useful to keep your original photograph and signature safely stored. When a new UP Police recruitment opens, prepare a fresh upload version from the original files if the application uses different image specifications.

Common UP Police Upload Problems

Photo Is Above 50 KB

Reduce the file size using controlled compression while keeping the face clear.

Photo Is Below the Required Range

If the application specifies a minimum KB value, increase the file size enough to bring it into the required range instead of making the file as small as possible.

Signature Is Above 20 KB

Compress the signature while keeping the handwriting readable.

Signature Has Too Much White Space

Crop the unnecessary margins before setting the final dimensions. Excessive blank space can make the actual signature appear too small.

Correct KB but Wrong Dimensions

Changing only the file size will not fix incorrect dimensions. Set the required width and height separately.

JPG File Is Rejected

Make sure the file is actually saved in JPG/JPEG format. Simply changing a .png filename to .jpg does not convert the image format.

Image Looks Blurry After Resizing

Start again with a clearer original photograph or signature scan. Heavy compression cannot recover lost detail.

Keep Your UP Police Files Organised

Create a separate folder before starting your application, for example:

Keeping the original files is useful if you need to prepare another version later for a different recruitment or application.

Take one final look at your files before submitting the application:

• Photograph is clear.
• Signature is readable.
• Photo dimensions are correct.
• Signature dimensions are correct.
• Photo file size is within the specified range.
• Signature file size is within the specified range.
• Both files are JPG/JPEG.
• Signature has been cropped properly.
• The correct file is selected for each upload field.
• The application preview looks correct.
• A copy of the completed application has been saved.
