AILET Photo & Signature Size

AILET (All India Law Entrance Test) is conducted directly by National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi) — unlike CLAT, which is run by the Consortium of NLUs. NLU Delhi publishes its own application guidelines, separate from the CLAT information brochure. A file prepared for CLAT may not meet AILET's specifications, so check the requirements below before reusing any file.

DocumentDimensionsFile SizeFormatMain Requirement

Important

These specifications are based on NLU Delhi's official AILET application guidelines. NLU Delhi can revise them for a future admission cycle, so confirm the current figures on nationallawuniversitydelhi.in before submitting your form.

AILET Photograph Requirements

Your uploaded AILET photograph should meet these requirements:

  • Recent, colour, passport-size photograph.
  • Plain white background.
  • No cap, goggles or other head covering (spectacles are allowed).
  • Face should cover about 75% of the photo frame, clearly visible in the preview box.
  • File size up to 1 MB.
  • Format: JPG/JPEG/PNG.

Keep two identical printed copies of the same photograph ready — NLU Delhi asks candidates to hold these in reserve for the admit card and later stages.

How to Prepare Your AILET Photograph

  1. 1

    Start with a clear original

Use an unedited, well-lit source photo.

  2. 2

    Check the background

    It must be plain white.

  3. 3

    Remove headwear

No cap or goggles; spectacles are fine if you wear them regularly.

  4. 4

    Frame the face

Keep your face filling about 75% of the frame.

  5. 5

    Adjust the file size

Keep it within the 1 MB limit.

  6. 6

    Preview and download

Confirm the face is clear in the preview box before saving.

AILET Signature Requirements

For AILET, the signature should be prepared inside a specified box rather than uploaded as a full-page scan.

  • Draw a box 6 cm wide × 3 cm high on plain white paper.
  • Sign inside the box, without overwriting or retracing.
  • Use a black or blue pen.
  • Keep the signature fully visible and clearly readable in the preview box.
  • File size up to 1 MB.
  • Format: JPG/JPEG/PNG, according to the current AILET application guidelines.

How to Prepare Your AILET Signature

  1. 1

    Draw the box

6 × 3 cm on clean white paper.

  2. 2

    Sign inside it

A single, clear signature with no overwriting.

  3. 3

    Capture it

Scan or photograph in even light, avoiding shadows.

  4. 4

    Crop to the box

Remove everything outside the drawn box — our crop signature tool can trim the margins first.

  5. 5

    Adjust the file size

Compress while keeping it legible and within the 1 MB limit.

  6. 6

    Preview and download

Check it's clearly readable before saving.

Other AILET Application Documents

Depending on your category or application status, the AILET form may require additional scanned documents alongside your photo and signature:

DocumentFile SizeWhen Needed
BPL CertificateUp to 2 MBIf applying under the BPL category
PassportUp to 2 MBIf applying under the Foreign National (FN) category
PWD CertificateUp to 2 MBIf claiming reservation under the PWD category

These are only required where applicable — check the current AILET notification for your specific requirements.

Common AILET Upload Problems

ProblemWhat to Check
Photo is rejectedConfirm it's within the 1 MB limit, in an accepted format, has a white background, no cap/goggles, and the face fills about 75% of the frame.
Signature is rejectedCheck it's signed inside the 6 × 3 cm box, without overwriting, in black or blue pen.
File is too largeCompress gradually rather than reducing quality too aggressively — both files allow up to 1 MB.
Signature looks unclear in previewRe-scan in even lighting and make sure the full signature sits inside the box.
Wrong file uploadedOpen each final file before selecting it in the application form.

If a correctly prepared file is still above the limit, run it through our image resizer to bring it into range.

Why Your AILET Files Can Be Rejected

A file can still cause problems even when the size is right, if:

  • The photo background isn't plain white.
  • The face is obscured by a cap, goggles, or covers less than 75% of the frame.
  • The signature has overwriting or extends outside the 6 × 3 cm box.
  • The image is blurry, dark, or has visible shadows.
  • The file isn't in an accepted format or exceeds 1 MB.
