Check Your SSC Photo Requirements

SSC photo requirements can vary between examinations and recruitment cycles. Before resizing your image, check the latest SSC notification or application instructions for the required photo method, dimensions, file format, and file-size limits.

Some current SSC applications use live photo capture instead of asking candidates to upload an existing photograph. In those cases, follow the photo-capture instructions shown in the application form rather than uploading a pre-existing photo. Recent SSC CGL and CHSL instructions use live photograph capture during the application process.

When an application does require an image upload, make sure your photo follows the specifications given for that particular examination.

Before Uploading Your SSC Photo

A good original image makes resizing easier and helps preserve photo quality.

• Keep your face clearly visible when the application requires an uploaded photo.
• Avoid blurry, dark, or poorly exposed images.
• Follow the background and appearance instructions for your particular examination.
• Check the required dimensions before resizing.
• Use the file format specified by the application.
• Preview the final image before submitting your form.

If the application uses live photo capture, follow the camera instructions provided inside the SSC application instead. Current SSC instructions include requirements such as good lighting, a plain background, an eye-level camera, a frontal view, and no cap, mask, or spectacles during live capture.

Common SSC Photo Upload Problems

  If the application has a maximum file-size limit, reduce the image to the required size before uploading it.

  An image can be rejected even when its file size is correct if its width or height does not match the application's requirements.

  Unsupported Format

  Check which formats the current application accepts before downloading your final image. If JPG or JPEG is required, use that format instead of an unsupported image type.

  Resizing cannot restore details that are missing from a blurry original. Start with the clearest suitable image available.

SSC Photo Requirements Can Change

There is no single photo specification that should be applied to every SSC examination.

CGL, CHSL, GD, MTS, CPO, JE, Stenographer, Selection Post, and other SSC recruitments can have different application instructions. The Commission also updates examination notices and application procedures over time.

Before submitting your application, always compare your final photo with the current instructions for the examination you are applying for.
